Wouter is currently the Senior Principal Geotechnical (Metals Lead) for Cartledge (Mining & Geotechnics) based in Australia. Wouter has over 35 years industry experience of which 30 years have been dedicated to geotechnical / rock engineering in Open-Cut Mining / Underground Mining / Water Dams / Tailings Dams / Heap Leach / Landslides, Civil Infrastructure, Civil tunnelling and consulting in Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Chile, UAE, Dubai, Canada, Australia, and South Africa.
Wouter’s previous roles as Group Manager Geotechnical & Hydro (Merdeka Coper Gold) and Group Head (Evolution Mining) involved Technical Corporate Governance and driving change towards Risk Based Management Plans (TSF’s, Water Dams, Heap Leach, Open Pit and Underground Ground Risk Management Plans) with an emphasis around Critical Controls and Trigger Action Response Plans (TARP’s).
Wouter has extensive experience in mine project evaluation (e.g. key economic risk), overall risk management, monitoring and failure / damage assessment, ground control design and stability assessments for various mining and civil projects. Being an expert witness over the last decade has provided an insight into various mining and civil engineering management system failures.
Wouter is currently a fellow with the AUSIMM and Governance Institute of Australia. Wouter is an RPEQ and Chartered Professional (CP) (Geotechnical & Tailings Engineering). Wouter’s key focus within Cartledge will be on maintaining technical excellence within the Metal side of the consultancy.
